Privacy Policy
1. Our approach
URLdl is built to be private by design. The app has no account system, collects no personal data, and includes no analytics, advertising or tracking. This policy explains, in plain terms, how the app handles your information and identifies the limited situations in which third parties — not us — may process data when you choose to download from them.
2. Who we are (data controller)
The app is published by URLdl. For any privacy question, you can reach us at support@urldl.app. Because we do not collect or receive your personal data through normal use of the app (see below), we act as a data controller only in respect of messages you voluntarily send us and of the limited technical information (such as your IP address) that our update server necessarily receives when the app checks for updates, as described in Section 5.
3. Data we collect
None from your use of the app's features. URLdl does not create a profile, does not require sign-in, and does not send your activity, the URLs you paste, or the files you download to us or to any analytics or advertising service. We run no analytics or tracking servers and have no ability to see what you download. The only connection to a server we operate is a routine check for application updates, which receives standard request information (including your IP address) but not your activity or downloads — see Section 5.
4. How the app works locally
Everything happens on your Mac:
- The URLs you paste, the media information fetched, and the files you download stay on your device.
- Downloaded files are saved to the location you choose. You remain in full control of them.
- URLdl does not read files or folders other than those needed to save your downloads.
- No usage logs or history are transmitted off your device.
5. Connections the app makes
To function, URLdl makes a small number of outbound connections from your device. Each is a standard internet request that transmits your IP address — and technical information inherent to any request, such as device/network information, the time of the request and, in standard request headers, the app and macOS version — to the server it reaches.
Third-party services (each processes the request under its own privacy policy and terms, over which we have no control):
- The video platforms you enter — to retrieve the media you request. The platform, together with its hosting and content-delivery providers, receives your request, exactly as a web browser would.
- GitHub — URLdl periodically checks for and downloads updates to its bundled yt-dlp component from GitHub, so that downloading keeps working as sources evolve.
- A third-party distribution server — occasionally, and only if URLdl needs to repair or re-download its bundled ffmpeg component.
- Lemon Squeezy — if you subscribe to URLdl Pro, the app sends your license key and a device name to Lemon Squeezy to activate your subscription and periodically confirm it is still valid.
Application updates (our server) — to let you know when a new version of URLdl is available, the app periodically checks our update feed hosted at urldl.app and, if you choose to install an update, downloads it from there. This request transmits your IP address and basic version information in standard request headers. It does not send any anonymized system profile, and we do not use it to identify, track or profile you; any server logs are used only to deliver updates and maintain security.
Subscriptions and payments (URLdl Pro) — purchases of URLdl Pro are handled entirely by our payments provider Lemon Squeezy, acting as Merchant of Record (reseller). When you subscribe, you provide your payment details and email address directly to Lemon Squeezy on its own checkout page; we never receive or store your card details. We receive only what is needed to deliver your subscription, such as your license status. Lemon Squeezy processes your data under its own privacy policy and terms.
Apart from this update check, URLdl does not transmit your activity, the content you download, or any other personal data to servers we operate, and the app contains no trackers or analytics. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of the third-party services you use, and you are responsible for ensuring your use of them complies with their terms.
6. No trackers, analytics or advertising
URLdl contains no third-party analytics libraries, no advertising SDKs, no trackers and no telemetry. We do not build profiles and do not use automated decision-making or profiling of any kind.
7. Third-party open-source tools
URLdl uses the bundled open-source tools yt-dlp and FFmpeg to read and process media. These run locally on your Mac and do not transmit personal data to us.
8. Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form on our website, the information you provide (name, email address and message) is transmitted through our third-party form provider and used solely to receive and reply to your message. It is not used for marketing or any other purpose and is not sold or shared beyond what is necessary to answer you. It is retained only for as long as needed to handle your request and comply with any applicable legal obligation.
9. Your rights
Because the app itself collects no personal data, there is generally no personal data for us to access, correct or erase. Where we do hold information you sent us (for example a support email), and to the extent applicable law such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) applies, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of that information, to object to or restrict its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, contact support@urldl.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
10. Data retention
Your app data stays on your device for as long as you keep it and is removed when you delete it or uninstall the app. Support correspondence is kept only as long as necessary for the purposes described above. Standard technical logs generated by our update server (such as IP address and time of request) are retained only briefly, for the purpose of delivering updates and maintaining security.
11. Children's privacy
URLdl is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) and does not knowingly collect any information from them. As the app collects no personal data from anyone, this holds true regardless of the user's age.
12. International users
URLdl is available worldwide. As your data stays on your device, we carry out no international transfer of your personal data. Any connection the app makes — whether to a third-party service or to our update server — occurs directly from your device to that server, wherever it is located.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app or to legal requirements. The "last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
