Terms of Use
Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using URLdl. They contain important limitations of our liability and place full responsibility for how you use the app on you. By using the app, you accept these Terms in full.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and the publisher of URLdl ("URLdl", "we", "us", "our") governing your use of the URLdl application (the "app"). The app is distributed directly by us from our website as a macOS application signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple; it is not obtained through the Mac App Store. By downloading, installing, accessing or using the app, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not download or use the app.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least the age of majority in your country of residence (or at least 18 years old) and legally able to enter into a binding contract to use the app. By using the app, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.
3. License to Use the App
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable and non-sublicensable license to install and use the app on Mac computers you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not, except as expressly permitted by applicable law: copy, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, distribute or otherwise commercialize the app; modify, adapt, translate, decompile, disassemble or reverse-engineer the app; remove any proprietary notices; or use the app to build a competing product.
4. Nature of the App — A Neutral Tool
URLdl is a general-purpose utility that lets you retrieve, convert and save video or audio media using open-source technology that runs locally on your device. The app is content-neutral: we do not host, store, provide, index, supply, recommend or control any of the media, websites or content that you may access or download. The app does not circumvent any effective technological protection measure or paywall, and is not intended for such use. Any media you choose to access comes from third parties over which we have no control.
5. Your Responsibilities and Acceptable Use
You are solely and entirely responsible for the content you access, download, convert, store and use, and for ensuring that your use of the app is lawful in your jurisdiction. You agree that you will:
- only download or record content that you own, that is in the public domain, that is licensed to you, or that you otherwise have the explicit right or the rights holder's permission to save;
- use downloaded content solely for your own private, personal and non-commercial purposes, where such use is permitted by law (for example, a private-copy exception where it applies);
- comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including copyright, neighbouring rights, trademark and privacy laws;
- review and comply with the terms of service, terms of use and community guidelines of any third-party platform or website from which you obtain content. Many platforms expressly prohibit downloading their content without authorization; it is your responsibility to check and to obtain any required permission before downloading.
You agree that you will not use the app to: infringe the intellectual property rights or privacy of any person; download, reproduce, distribute, publicly perform or make available content without authorization; circumvent digital rights management (DRM), access controls, paywalls or other technological protection measures; or engage in any unlawful, fraudulent or abusive activity.
We do not encourage, condone, induce, enable or authorize any use of the app that violates any law or any third party's rights or terms of service. We reserve the right, but assume no obligation, to restrict or terminate your access to the app if we reasonably believe you are using it in breach of these Terms.
6. Copyright and Intellectual Property of Others
We respect the intellectual property rights of others and expressly prohibit the use of the app to reproduce or download any content in violation of copyright or any other law. Because the app hosts no content, it is technically impossible for us to remove any specific media; the appropriate remedy for any rights holder is against the party who hosts or unlawfully shares the content, or against a user who misuses the app. If you believe the app itself infringes your rights, or you have a copyright concern, contact us at support@urldl.app and we will respond in good faith.
7. Our Intellectual Property
The app, its name, logo, user interface, design and all related materials (excluding third-party open-source components) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms grant you no rights in our trademarks, branding or proprietary materials.
8. Third-Party Open-Source Components
URLdl bundles and relies on independent open-source tools, including yt-dlp and FFmpeg, each distributed under its own license. Those components are provided by their respective authors "as is", are not developed or endorsed by us, and your use of them as part of the app is also subject to their respective licenses. We make no warranty regarding third-party components.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR COMPATIBLE WITH ANY PARTICULAR SOURCE. Because the app depends on third-party websites and open-source tools that may change or become unavailable at any time, we do not warrant that any particular source, format or feature will work at any given time.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, GOODWILL OR REVENUE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP OR ANY CONTENT YOU DOWNLOAD, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. In particular, we shall not be liable for any claim arising from content you access, download or use, or from your breach of any law or third-party terms. To the extent any liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for the app (if any) or ten euros (€10). Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including your mandatory consumer-protection rights.
11. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless URLdl, its publisher and its contributors from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use or misuse of the app; (b) the content you access, download, convert, store, share or use; or (c) your violation of these Terms, of any law, or of any third party's rights or terms of service.
12. Termination
These Terms apply for as long as you use the app. You may stop using the app and uninstall it at any time. We may suspend or terminate the license granted under these Terms if you materially breach them. The sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11) will continue to apply.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the app or to legal requirements. The "last updated" date above indicates the current version. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection provisions of your country of residence. Any dispute relating to the app or these Terms shall be submitted to the jurisdiction of the competent French courts, subject to any mandatory rules that grant you the right to bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force. The English version of these Terms prevails over any translation.
